Présentation du programme

The complete continuing education program

Once you’ve decided to sign up for a course given by the AQPMA, you are officially considered as a student enrolled in a curriculum of courses. If you continue taking courses regularly within our continuing education program, you will automatically receive your attestations of manipulation issued by the OPPQ. The AQPMA will give the Peripheral Attestation after successful completion of the Level 3 Quadrant courses and the Vertebral Attestation after successful completion of the Level 4.

Program procedure

In Québec, the Level 1 Clinical Integration course is 4 days and is the prerequisite for the Level 2 Quadrant courses. On the other hand, you could decide to challenge the exam by communicating with CPA however, you will have to buy the theoretical course notes as they are not provided on the level 2 course.

It is no longer necessary to complete the Level 2 Lower Quadrant course prior to the Level 2 Upper Quadrant course. At each of Level 2 and Level 3, you may now start with either the upper or lower quadrants.

Exams at the end of each course
Please note there is a written exam at the end of each course for Levels 1, 2 and 3. The exam is short answer and is held in the afternoon of the last day of the course. There is also a Case History exam, which must be completed during the course and will be corrected as a group. Passing these exams is obligatory prior to obtaining the certificate of completion and continuing onto the next levels. The passing grade is 65% when combining the two exams. Please see the policy for failing an exam under the « Policies » tab on our website.

Canadian National exams for manual therapy

There are two Canadian National exams of manual therapy: the Intermediate Exam and the Advanced Exam.

In order to be able to register for the Intermediate Exam, you must have completed the two Level 3 Quadrant courses. It is also essential to complete 90 supervised clinical hours by the end of January of the year of your challenging the Exam.

Starting in 2011, the Intermediate Exam has consisted of a practical exam only (global mobilizations and peripheral manipulations). This practical exam is held once a year in the month of April in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and/or Montréal.

The Advanced Exam consists of three parts: a case history, a written exam and a practical exam on vertebral mobilizations and manipulations. In order to be able to register for this exam, you must complete Levels 4 & 5 Quadrant courses as well as 60 supervised clinic hours by the end of the month of June within same year the exam is held. This exam is held each Fall season.

To register for either of these exams (Intermediate or Advanced Exam), please consult the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association website:  https://www.orthodiv.org/
